I was lucky enough to receive a copy of The Retreat from Titan Books and I was so excited to get started.
It didn’t disappoint.
The prologue gets the whole thing started straight away and makes you NEED to carry on reading to see what happens next.
Katie Manning is a mess! She was a child star, playing the role of Shelby Spade for years. Her career went downhill and she ends up on a path to self-destruction.
She is spending money like it’s going out of fashion and always has an alcoholic drink in her hand. She also sleep walks a lot so her brother (who lives in the same building) has to lock her in her home at night.
Her brothers fiancé is adamant that Katie hates her and in a bid to win her friendship, she books them on a weekend retreat. Unbeknown to her, Katie has also invited her two best friends.
The Retreat itself sounds like a beautiful place to relax and unwind, although the owners do come across as a bit creepy.
All four girls are hiding big secrets and everything is about to come crashing down.
The blurb even tells you that only one of them is left standing!!!!
It’s a ‘fly by the seat of your pants’ type book, but do give it chance to get going. It did take a few chapters for me to really be pulled in. Once it gets going though, it’s a hard book to put down.
