Will you help me to die?
What I want to say is that suicide is my choice. No-one else is to blame. Man seeks beautiful woman for the journey of a lifetime: Will you help me to die?
When Probation Officer Cate Austin is given her new assignment, she faces the highest-profile case of her career. Alice Mariani is charged with assisted suicide and Cate must recommend a sentence. Alice insists her story is one of misinterpreted love, forcing those around her to analyse their own lives. Who is to decide what is normal and when does loyalty turn to obsession? Investigating the loophole that lies between murder and euthanasia, Cate must now meet the woman who agreed to comply with her lover’s final request. Shocking revelations expose bitter truths that can no longer be ignored.
I really enjoyed this book. I seem to say that a lot but as you know, I will only write a review for a book that I genuinely enjoyed and this was definitely one of them.
There are certain parts of this book that are full on gruesome. I’m warning you… it’s horrid! But, it’s so worth the read. The plot is absolutely crazy and I have no idea where Ruth got her inspiration from, but I’m so glad she came up with it.
I was completely engrossed by it. The story all gradually comes together and starts to make sense and you completely understand why Alice is in the position she is. Empathy starts to appear and you do feel for her even though she comes across as a bit of a bitch. By learning more about her background it all becomes clear.
I really liked Cate as a character. She played the whole thing beautifully. I love how she is so trustworthy straight away and Alice is actually surprised to find that she trusts her.
I’d definitely like to read more by this author. I fell into this book and if her others are similar then I’m 100% in!
A lot of us (book bloggers) were reading this book at the same time and it seemed to accidentally become a bit of a buddy read which actually made it even more enjoyable. It’s so good to hear other peoples opinions on a book that you’re loving.
Thank you so much to Legend Press for sending me this copy.
