I absolutely flew through this book. I loved it from start to finish. It is so engrossing. Definitely one of my favourite books for this year.
Four strangers are missing. Left behind are birthday cards that read: “Your gift is the game. Dare to play?” The police aren’t worried – it’s just a game. But the families are frantic. As psychologist and private detective Dr Augusta Bloom delves into the lives of the missing people, she finds something that binds them all. And that something makes them very dangerous indeed. As more disappearances are reported and new birthday cards uncovered, Dr Bloom races to unravel the mystery and find the missing people. But, what if they’re the ones she should fear?
The twists and turns in this book are phenomenal. I didn’t guess the ending at all and one particular twist really got me. I was so surprised by it.
The story is set between London and Yorkshire. As a Yorkshire girl myself it was quite fun reading about Leeds and picturing exactly where the author was taking you. I know Leeds very well. It is less than 20 minutes from my house. Leona even mentioned Batley at one point which is where I am from. Maybe I’m a biased Yorkshire Girl, but I honestly can’t speak highly enough of this book.
(Have I made my point that I loved it yet??)
It would be hard to say much else without accidentally giving away spoilers, but i urge you to read this book if you’re into psychological thrillers and love a good twist. I can’t wait to read more from this author. She is definitely one to look out for.
Thank you so much to Anne Cater for arranging the blog tour and Penguin for sending me the book.
I gave this book a huge FIVE stars.
