⚜️ Blog Tour Review Time ⚜️
⚜️ The Secrets of Strangers by Charity Norman ⚜️
♦️ Oh my goodness me, did I LOVE this book! ♦️
♦️ I’ll be honest, when I first picked this book up, I wasn’t in the right mood for it and I couldn’t get into it. BUT, I put it down, read something else, then came back to it & started again. This time, I fell hard for this book.
♦️ Trigger Warning: the subject is a cafe full of people held hostage at gunpoint.
♦️ This book is so beautifully written. The story revolves around the gunman (Sam) in the cafe but we learn a lot about his past and how he has come to this moment. I found myself routing for Sam and hoping that despite everything, he would ‘save the day’ so to speak. The hostages are amazing. Their characters make you want to be that sort of person and help whenever possible. Mutesi is a favourite character of mine. We also learn a lot about the hostages. How they came to be in the cafe and how they’re coping with their normal day to day lives. This situation will change ALL of their lives. They all have their own secrets and they all want nothing more that to survive this ordeal.
♦️ There is actually only one character that I disliked in this book – and it wasn’t the Gunman. (But I won’t say who!)
♦️ I can honestly and truly tell you that, at the end, I cried like a baby. I was absolutely heartbroken by this book, I gave it FIVE stars and I have put it in my top 5 of the year so far. It’s incredible. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
♦️ Thank you so much to @annecater14 for arranging the blog tour, to @allenandunwin for sending me the book and of course to #charitynorman for writing such a wonderful work of art.
